FOUR OKTOBERFEST ESSENTIALS |
MR. AND MRS. OKTOBERFEST
The Oktoberfest wasn't about beer and sausages at all; rather it was a six-day public celebration of the royla wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig I and Princess Theressa of Bavaria back in 1810. Horse racing was the main event, probably becase the Chicken Dance had yet to be invented.
Words to drink by (in German).
Eins, Zwei, Drei G'Suffal - One, Two, Three, Drink! Prost! - Cheers! Beeilen Sie sich zum Stab, hat nur eine Million Gallonen des Biers verlassent!
Fame , fortune and sausage.
On October 14, 2000, the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, constructed and devoured the worlds' biggest sausage on a bun- a monstrosity consisting of 575 pounds of dough, 265 pounds of Oktoberfest sausage, 50 pounds of sauerkraut and two gallons of mustard.
Swimming in it.
In 1899, the Munich, Germany, Oktoberfest saw 6.5 million visitors drink around 1.5 million gallons of beer in 16 days - enough beer to fill around six Olympic size swimming pools.
