WHAT'S IN A NAME
The names that we now know as first names or forenames, or given names or christian names, were originally the only names that people bore. when in the medieval times, it became necessary to distinguish people of identical names from one another--- surnames arose to specify which particular person's family or ancestry.

Where did the names actually come from? the mention of John and Mary indicates a prime source--- the Bible. the early saints were the first to adopt, or were given the biblical names.

Most of the names are Hebrew in origin and in many cases has a meaning that related in some way to its bearer or was specifically devised to do so.

example: Jeremiah has name appropriately meaning "appointed by God" and Samuel, king and prophet has a name meaning "asked of God"

Here are some of the names that has been commonly used:

AURELIA.... this is the feminine form of the Latin clan name Aurelius, ultimately from the word AURUM or Gold.

ABIGAIL..... A name of biblical origin, from Hebrew, Abigayil, meaning to say , My Father Rejoices.

ADELAIDE.....the name is the english form of the old german name, Adalheit, form from Adal, "noble" and heit, "state", "condition" hence it has the meaning "woman of noble state"

ADONIS......a Greek name, from Phoenician Adon, "Lord", compare to Adonai, "my Lord, the Judaic title of God.

AGNES...... the name comes from the Greek Hagnos, "pure"
"chaste", but it was also influenced by the Latine word Agnus, "lamb.

AIMEE.... the name which represents French Aimee, "beloved" of the english equivalent of Amy.

ALAN..... a celtic name, traditionally derived from Alun, "harmony", "concord".

ALBERT.....the name derives from Old German Adalbert, itself composed of Adal, "noble" and beraht "famous" hence, nobly famous or famously noble.

ALEXIS..... a borrowing of the Greek name Alexios, s short form for Alexander, or Alexein, to defend.now commonly used by women.

ALMA..... the origin of the name is in latin Alma, "Kind", "nurturing"

ANASTASIA....this is the feminine form of the Greek name Anastasius, "resurrection"

ANDREW...... from a greek name Andreas, genitive, andros, "man" or "manly", "brave".

(to be continued... i am very sleepy already)

THE JAPANESE CODE OF THEN AND NOW
For the past 1100 years, Japan has what we call the Samurai warrior code, the Bushido code. This code has been followed during the feudal system in Japan.

Here are some of the codes that have followed:

1). CHU........... Duty and Loyalty

2). GI ........... Justice and Morality

3). MAKOTO........ Complete Sincerity

4). REI .......... Polite Courtesy

5). JIN .......... Compassion

6). YU ........... Heroic Courage

7). MEIYO ........ Honor

But times has changed now, Japan is now in the mainstream of the western culture, so they now have:

KARAOKE
............ Oke is orchestra. literally translated as Music
............ without the lyrics. so you supply the Lyrics on
............ your term of voice and melody. this is how Japan
............ has brought its culture to the west and vice versa.

WONDER BOY
His name is Sho Yano, a kid who created a stir in 2000 when he entered Loyola University at the age of 9 and graduated Summa Cum Laude just three years later. He was admitted at Pritzker School of Medicine, University of Chicago last fall. since he was a toddler, Sho has been exceptional, shocking primary school teachers and parents with his uncanny ability to absorb all kinds of information. as a young boy, his IQ measured above 200, putting him well into the genius range.

Sho is one of just 10students in the University of Chicago's school of medicine in the combined MD/PHD program.most of the time the group quickly holds tight bonds among each other. instead of spending hours in taverns with his classmates, Sho joined a clssmate or two for a bike ride or accomopanied them for dinner while his mother waited in the car downstairs. during the group's first retreat, other students sipped wine, but a classmate said "we always made sure we have milk for Sho."

Some professor and classmate expected a nerdy kid with his hand constantly raised, eager to prove he knew all the answers, instead he was quietly brilliant. his professors says, sometimes he knows the answer before his professor.

As part of his first year in medical school, Sho assists in the DNA repair lab in school lab.

The University of Chicago medical school , gave Sho's application a closer look because of his age. he met with triple number of professors and students compared with typical applicants. in the end, he left a strong impression that he was an exceptional and mature student eager to move on.there was a slight change to his course studies, allowing him to take more of his Doctoral Research at the beginning of his studies and more medical training at the end. by the time he sees patients, he will be likely 17 years old.

Sho's qualifications easily matched those of the other students applying to the unviersity's medical scientist-in-training program leading to both MD and a PhD. he had perfect socres in the quantitative and analytical sections of his graduate school admissions test. his Medical College Admission Test scores is 13 or 14 out of 15 for each of the sections --- were STELLAR. he defied critics by graduating from Loyola University three years ago, earning the highest honors.

His father is Japanese and his mother is Korean.

Sho is also a learned pianist and his attachment to music stood out. at the age of 3, his little finger found a welcome place at the piano, even with complicated pieces of Chopin.at the age of 4, he was composing his own music. but he craved more for science. at the age of 8, he scored a combined 1,500 out of the possible 1,600 on the SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TESTS.

His mother did not send him to college at the age of 7, instead she sent him to college at the age of 9. Northwestern University discouraged his mother from applying him to this school, but Loyola University gave him a welcome hand and a scholarship.

In his courses with letter scores including cell biology and genetic analysis and cancer bilogy, he earned all A's. he passed all his medical school classes. he was able to skip a tough medical genetics course after ACING a preliminary exam.

His professor in radiation and cellular oncology, said "he was one among the very best in class". he is gravitating in cancer and cell research.

During the time of remembrance at the University of Chicago for those whose relatives or love ones died of cancer, dozens of families squeezed into chairs, clutching flowers and tissues in their hands, while some of the medical students read some poems and sang, Sho was given the Musical Meditation honor. he was the performer. Sho approached the piano in a black suit and a distinctive white bow tie and played an arresting Franz Schubert piece, his slender body upright as his fingers flew across the keys.there was tenderness and passion in every note, and in the audience, tears flowed.

BEST BODY AND MIND BOOSTERS
Divesify your social circle for better health.

"People with pals in many different occupations have fewer colds and less depressed, suggested a study from the Univ. of Toronto. connecting with a variety of people exposes us to new situations, strengthening our ability to cope with stress and bolstering our immune systems.so strike up a conversation with someone from you at least once a week."

Quit second guessing yourself.

"If you keep flip-flopping on decisions, you may be more vulnerable to anxiety, mood swings, and procrastiantion. when researchers at the Ohio State Univ. psychology dept. asked subjects how much they worry about the choices they make, the investigators found that self doubters are prone to emotional problems because of their lack of confidence in their own judgement, and that they're easily swayed by other people's opinions. if this sounds like you, fight the urge to ask everyone you know what to do when it comes to making a big decision, and try to listen to your inner voice instead."

Relieve heartburn with a stick of GUM.

"When heartburn catches you off guard and you don't have an antacid, try chewing a piece of gum instead-- it can provide temporary relief, says Sturat Spechler, MD, a professor of Internal medicine at Univ. of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Chewing gum stimulates saliva production, causing you to swallow and clear away the stomach acid that backs up into the esophagus, Spechler explains."

EMBARRASSING QUESTION

Can using food during sex give me an infection?
"It's never good idea to place food inside your vagina -- sweet treats such as whipped cream, chocolate syrup and honey in particular. the reason is, even briefly putting such popular options inside can upset the vagina's delicate pH balance due to the sugar and starch content possibly leading to a Yeast Infection, says Daniel S. Stein MD, author of Passioante Sex. be sure to clean you private parts with a warm washcloth before having intercourse so nothing gets inside."

Birth Control Blunders

"If your method is Condom, this is the slip up. Condom is rolled on so tight that there's no room at the tip to act as a reservoir for the ejaculation, increasing the odds that semen will leak out."

"So slowly unfurl a new Condom down the penis, leaving a half inch space at the tip."

Breathe for more INTENSE SEX

"Moaning and groaning while you make love can trigger changes in your brain that helps you tune out distractions and tune in to pure pleasure, according to researh at the Medical School in Hannover, Germany.here's how, sighing, groaning, or breathing rapidly induces mild hyperventilation, which reduces oxygen to the brain. this creates a slightly dizzy feeling sensations. try it by responding to OOOH or MMMMM to each stroke and caress."

THE POSITIVE SIDE OF LIFE
Living on Earth is Expensive,
but it does include a Free Trip
around the Sun every year.

**
How long a minute is....
depends on what side of the
bathroom door you're on.

**
Birthdays are good for you;
the more you have it,
the longer your life is.

**
Happiness comes through doors you
didnt' even know YOU LEFT OPEN.

**
Ever notice that the people who are late
are often much jollier
than the people who have to wait for them?

**
Most of us go to our grave
with our music still inside us.

**
If Wal-Mart is loweing their prices every day,
how come nothing is FREE yet?

**
You may be the only one person in the world,
but you may also be the world to one person.

**
Some mistakes are too much fun
to only make once.

**
Don't cry because its over;
smile because it happened.

**
We could learn a lot from crayons;
some are sharp,
some are pretty,
some are dull,
some have weird names,
and all are different colors.....but
they all exist every nicely in the same box.

**
A truly happy person is one who
can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

**
Working for GOD on Earth does not pay much,
but His Retriement Plan is out of this world.

**
Donot listen to what the people are saying
Listen to WHAT they are not SAYING.

**
Have an awesome day, and
know that someone
who thinks you're great
has thought about you today!!

AND THAT PERSON IS ME.

SWEETS FOR MY SWEETS
CHOCOLATE is a universal symbol of LOVE. ever since its discovery by the Aztecs in ancient Mexico, it has been used as a gift-- a concrete expression of a thousand feelings too sweet, too complex for mere words.

LOVE needs a tangible language, for LOVE cannot be contained nor expressed by even the most sophisticated vocabulary. music expresses love to our ears..., flowers are a visual symbol of our feelings....and CHOCOLATE allows us to taste LOVE'S SWEETNESS.

The first cacao trees grew wild in the rain forests of the land of Orinoco river basins over four thousand years ago. by the seventh century AD, the Mayans had cultivated these trees, they paid taxes to the Aztecs with cocoa beans. during Montezuma's regime, a drink made from the beans was considered sacred. it could be imbibed only by the male elite and the beans were used as currency.

" The divine drink, which builds up resistance and fights fatigue. a cup of this precious drink permits a man to walk for a whole day without food". (Aztec Emperor Montezuma (c. 1480-1520)

When the conquistador Hernando Cortes returned from Mexico in 1520, he introduced his own version fo the chocolate drink to the court of King Charles V. when Columbus had tried to impress Europeans with the same drink, they had turned up their noses at the bitter brew, but Cortes caught the King's attention by adding sugar and vanilla to the chocolate . words of this new drink quickly spread througout spain.

During the 17th and 18th century, chocolate consumption spread throughout Europe. at first only the wealthy could afford it, but the French revolution also meant that chocolate beans to be consumed by the common folks as well as the aristocracy. in 1826 the Dutch invented a cocoa press that further reduced the price of chocolate.

Just as the Aztecs had considered chocolate to be sacred, Europeans now thought of chocolate as a therapeutic, health giving substance. Quaker families in England, such as the Fryes and Cardburies, began producing chocolate, promoting it as a "HEALTHY AND FLESH FORMING", a far more better alternative to gin.

In 1847, the Fry chocolate factories in Bristol, England molded the first chocolate bar, and in 1850 Richard Cardbury made the fist Valentines Day heart candy box. milk chocolate was invented in 1879 by two swiss chocolate manufacturers, Henri Nestle and Daniel Peter. in the USA Milton Hershey brought the mass production to chocolate manufacturing. he was also the first to experiment with the use of vegetable fats instead of pure cocoa, which raised the melting point of a candy bar. chocolate could then withstand the heat of American summers and could also be shipped to the troops during world war II.

The US governemnt recognized chocolate's importance to both nourishment and morale of the allied forces so much so that it allocated valuable shipping space for the importance of cocoa beans.

WENT TO LUNCH
When I went to lunch today, I noticed an old lady near a park bench sobbing her eyes out. I stopped and asked her what was wrong.

She said:

" I have a 22 year old husband at home. He makes love to me every morning and then gets up and makes me pancakes, sausage, fresh fruit and freshly ground coffee."

I said:

" Well, why are are you then crying?".

She said:

" He makes me homemade soup for lunch and my favorite brownies and then makes love to me for the half of the afternoon".

I said:

" Well, why are you crying?"

She said:

" For dinner he makes me a gourmet meal with wine and my favorite dessert and then makes love to me until 2:00 AM"

I said:

" Well, why in the world are you crying?"

She said:

" I can't remember where I live!!!!"

YEAST INFECTIONS AND VAGINITIS
Strange as it seems, i was reading some literature about mens illness and i came across this womens illness. i hope this wont offend any ofmy female reader--- i just want to give out info for those who does not know this illness.

OVERVIEW:

Vaginitis or inflamation of the vigina is often caused by an infection, but it may also be caused by a reaction to vaginal products such as soaps, bath oils, spermicidal jely or douches. Vaginitis may cause symptoms such as vaginal itching, pain or discharge.

Bacterial vainosis and vaginal yeast infections are the two most common types of vaginal infections in women of childbearing age. either type of infection can result into vaginitis.

Bacterial Vaginosis

Is the most common type of vaginal infection in women with childbearing age. it is caused by an imbalance of the bacteria that normally exist in the vagina. the exact cause of the imbalance of organisms is not well understood. a healthy vagina normally contains many bacteria and other organisms. (vaginal flora)such as yeast cells, LACTOBACILLUS ACIDOPHILUS bacteria that are normally present in the vagina appears to help prevent other vaginal organisms from increasing in numbers great enough to cause the problems.

SYMPTOMS OF BACTERIAL VAGINOSISvary widely among women. about half of the women with bacterial vaginosis donot have symptoms. the most notable symptom of this illness is an excessive grayish white vaginal discharge, unlike normal vaginal discharge. the discharge may smell "fishy" the odor is usually worse after sex. symptoms usually occur within the first seven days of the menstrual cycle when hormone levels may change the nornal environment of the vagina.

EXAMS AND TESTS

a medical history and a vaginal exam are done to diagnose bacterial viginosis. the exam includes taking a sample (vaginal smear) of the vaginal discharge. this is treated with medications. medication may either be taken by mouth (oral) or inserted into the vagina. for many years, medication such as METRONIDOZOLE(FLAGYL) were the only treatment choice for women with this illness.

NEWER MEDICATIONS than canbe inserted into the vagina are such as, INTRAVAGINAL METRONIDAZOLE (METROGEL-VAGINA) and CLINDAMYCIN (CLEOCIN VAGINAL) are now considered as effective as oral medications, but this oral medication are not used in pregnancy.pregnant women with symptoms or at high risk are treated with oral medications.

DIETARY CHOICES

** eat a well balanced diet - diet low in fats, sugar and refined foods is important for preventing vaginal infections caused by CANDIDA some doctors recommend that fruit also to be avoided.

** eat yogurt. in a recent study, women who consumed 8 ounces of ACIDOPHILUS yogurt per day had a threefold decrease in the incidence of vaginal yeast infections and reduction in the frequency of CANDIDA colonization in the vagina.

LIFESTYLE OPTIONS

** wear cotton underwear. yeast infections are three times more common in women who wear nylon underwear or tights than in those who wear cotton underwear.

** avoid food allergens. allergies have been reported to promote recurrent yeast vaginitis. when the allergies are avoided and the allergies treated, chronic recurring yeast infections often resolve.

** for irritant vaginitis, minimizaing friction and reducing exposure to perfumes and chemicals and irritating lubricants can be beneficial.

A CONTINUOUS TEXT MESSAGE FROM AN AILING BROTHER
I have received contineous text messages from the hospital bed of my younger brother. i gues my kid brother is trying to reach out to me and i to be part of his life and miseries in life and challenges as well to overcome his illness. i am blogging the entire conversation:

Kuya,

(a polite word for an elder broter coming from a young sibling)

i have already finished 18 dextrose bottles from the time i was taken out of the intensive care unit. i have not been given any solid food, but ok with me, i know they are doing everything for me. they have already started giving water to me thru the mouth, but i still have tubes connectd to me.

Phillip,

there is nothing in this world that i want than to see you happy and well. think of the times you always come to hongkong and boracay with your family. that was a kodak moment. get well and listen to your doctors carefully and follow them so that u will be out of the hospital soon and will be home. this is your second chance in lif and i am very proud of you fighting that dreadul illnes that has befallen you. get well and see your son fly an airplane on his own and you will know the greatest feelings, because this is also your achievements. just think always that i am there besides you, giving you a big hug, and telling you how much I LOVE YOU!

Kuya,

My doctor told me that i still have to undergo chemo theraphy because there is still extended tumor inside me.i hope i will be able to overcome this, for my children.

Phillip,

You will overcome everything if you just concentrate your mind to it. try to think of your chemo as a regular checkup. then think about your daughter as a full grown lady now, graduating from college and then finally you are walking her down the aisle and will be given to her man in marriage. all of us are there, with all the smiles and you as the father, proud and happy on this special occassion. so try to challenge your illness so you will be able to see all these things that will be happening into your life.i am hugging you and letting you feel my love and affection. keep well my young brother.

Phillip,

i would like you to know that my entire family is praying for you. we will always put you in our hearts. this is the time for you to be brave and challenge your sickness. be brave and let this be to be mind over illness. still with our love, we pray for you.

A WOMAN'S HEALTHY HEART
I have just celebrated saturday,12jun my 25th wedding anniversary. my wife and i talked about the lasting friendship that we have together. we talked about heart and so i read the heart of woman about risk of women's heart problem.

DID YOU KNOW?

Many women think that breast cancer is a bigger threat than heart disease. but the leading causes of death for American women in the year 2000 were:

** Heart disease ----------------- 366,000
** Cancer (all types) ------------ 255,000
-- lung -------------------------- 65,000
-- breast ------------------------ 42,000

-- others ------------------------ 79,000
** Stroke ------------------------ 103,000
** Chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease ---------------- 62,000
** Pneumonia / Influenza --------- 37,000

QUESTIONS A WOMAN SHOULD ASK HER DOCTOR

Getting answers tho these questions will give a woman vital information about her heart halth and what you can do toimprove it. you may want to bring alist to your doctor's office.

1. What is my risk of heart disease?

2. What is my blood pressure? what odes it mean for me, and what do i i need to do about it?

3. What are my cholesterol numbers? (these includes total cholesterol, LDL or "bad" cholesterol , HDL or "good" cholesterol, and triglycerdies) what do they men to me and what do i need to do about them?

4. What are my "body mass index" and waist measurement? do they indicate that i need to lose weight for my heart?

5. What is my blood sugar level,a nd does it mean i'm at risk for diabetes?

6. What other screening tests for heart disease do i need? how often should i return for checkups for my heart health?

7. What can you do to help me quit smoking?

8. How much physical activity do i need to help protect my heart?

9. What is a heart healthy eating plan for me? should i see a resgistered diatitian or quatified nutritionist to learn more about healthy eating?

10. How can i tell if i'm having a heart attack?

EAT FOR HEALTH

The health of your heart has a lot to do with the foods you eat.

** choose a variety of grains daily, especially hwole grains.

** choose a variety of fruits and vegetables daily.

** choose a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, and moderated in total fat.

THE FEAR OF BEING ASKED TO COME HOME
The matriarch of the family has asked all of us who are living permanently abroad to prepare to come home to the Phils. by the end of the month.

This is what i am so dreadful about, when we are all being asked to come home and to do it as soon as possible. so my sister and her family from calgary, alberta in canada is coming home, likewise my other brother from new jersey and his family is coming home also, and i am coming home also with my wife. my two boys just started summer school and cannot missed their schedules.

We were all advised that the coming home will give strength to my kid brother and will make both our parents happy to see us all together. my father had a chest pain while he was at the hospital the other day upon seeing my kid brother with all his contraptions attached to him inside the intensive care unit.

There is a round the clock watch that has been given to the rest of the family who are back home. our family doctor is at the hospital everyday, every morning trying to watch and study and confer with the hospital surgeon the progress and the developments of my kid brother. her wife is always there with him and the private nurse and the theraphist is also watching over him. all of the best care and medicine and care money can buy has been accorded to my kid brother. a round the clock nurse is always in attendance for him.

This incident that happened to my youngest brother is the apex of our family's test to be with each other and to be one in spirit and all for my brother. like as i have said, he is too young to suffer this kind of illness and he already suffered so much, both in the children that was born to him and then this dreadful illness.

I will not think that we have abandoned this kid, he has everything that he wants in life, even in the state of married life. among all the siblings, he was the one that is always being cared and being looked after by my mother. his kids goes to the most expensive school and they have their material necessities given to them based on what their needs are.

And so this coming home is making me nervous.i don't want to see my parents in a very lonely state of mind especially my father who had a quadruple bypass.i dont know how can both my parents take this illness of my kid brother with an open mind, since i myself cannot accept it, what more of my parents who are already past their 80's.

CANCER OF THE ESOPHAGUS
i cannot help myself to study and learn more about the disease of my kid brother. I need to know some answers on how he got it and what was the risk of having it inside the body. The research that I have read is very helpful, but it has put me in despair and in a melancholic mood

"Cancer of the Esophagus is a disorder wherein the cells in the lining of the esophagus starts to multiphy and form a tumor. The tumor eventually causes narrowing and constriction of the passageway to your stomach. As with other types of cancer, the cause is unknown, though cancer of the esophagus has been linked with prolonged exposure to irritants such as tobacco smoke and alcohol."

Esophagus Overview:
-------------------

"The Esophagus , or gullet, is the muscular tube that runs from the back of your throat though your neck and chest to your stomach.

When you swallow, the top of the trachea is temporarily closed off so that the food will go into the esophagus. Muscle contractions then move the food along the esophagus and into the stomach
.

As you swallow, the back of your tongue pushes a ball of food into the Esophagus. The soft palate closes off the passageway to your nose and the top of the windpipe closes so that food cannot get into your trachea, or lower windpipe, and then into your lungs. Rhythmic contractions of the esophageal muscles sends the food down through the chest into the base of the esophagus, a muscular valve at the entrance to your stomach realxes to let the food pass through.

Difficulty swallowing or pain while swallowing is called "DYSPHAGIA". It is not a disease, but it is a symptom of nearly all diseases of the esophagus."

What are the symptoms?
----------------------

"The main symptoms is difficulty or pain when swallowing that worsen rapidly. At first only solids are hard to swallow, but then liquids also become troublesome. An additional symptom is rapid progressive weight loss. Occasionally, you may belch up bloody mucus as well."

What are the risks?
-------------------

"Cancers of the esophagus is very rare. Men are about twice as susceptible as women, and the risk seems to be greater for heavy smokers and drinkers who are about 50 to 60 years old.

If the condition is detected in an early stage, the chances for successful treatment are fair. Otherwise, it can spread swiftly, blocking the esophagus and spreading to vital neighborng organs. About ten percent of those who have cancer of the esophagus survive for five or more years after the condition is discovered".

What should be done?
---------------------

"If food seems to stick in your throat when you try to swallow it, the doctor will probably order diagnostic tests, including "BARIUM SWALLOW X-RAY", other x-rays, a thorough examination of the esophagus by "ENDOSCOPY" and a "BIOPSY" in which a sample of tissue is removed for careful examination.

If you have cancer of the esophagus, the usual treatnment is to remove the affected part. "RADIATION THERAPHY" may be used to attempt to destroy any remaining cancer cells. If an operation is not possible, radiation theraphy will be probably be used to slow down the progress of the disease."

LETTER TO A YOUNG ILL BROTHER
Dear Phillip,

I am sending this letter via fedex to you directly at the hospital. it takes time if i sent it to our office before you'll be getting it.

I was talking to our doctor, i dont have time to talk to your surgeon, so what i did is i talked to our own doctor and he explained to me what happened at the surgery room and the extent of your illness.

I am very proud of you. you passed the surgery with flying colors. we are all very anxious for your immediate and early recovery. try to follow what your doctors now is telling and advising you. your health is the concern of all of us, so we all ask that you listen to what the doctors and the theraphist will be telling you. i know how hard it is to go under the knife. i had that twice and i can tell you it is not fun.

The contraptions that you have according to Dr. Steve is temporary. they have worked on your esophagial tract so eventually you can eat properly and can drink water on your own. meantime you have to contend yourself for a while being fed intravenously and the water likewise. you don't have to talk or try to speak. that is the reason our Ate Au is there to see to it that she will be your vocie. and Dr. Steve likewise is also there almost everyday from the time you had surgery to check with the surgical doctor the ongoing progress and the progenosis of your illness.

If you will be able to travel, i will come home and take you to the Mayo Clinic in the states. i have talked to Dr. Steve about it and he does not have any problem with it, as long as your doctor in Manila will approve and the airlines will give you permission to board their plane.

Remember the day before your surgery we talked and I told you it is mind over illness?? it is so easy to battle any malignant problem in life if you know how to battle it with your mind and your insistent to survice and live. remember the time when you were a little tyke of 3 years old and we were at the backyard of Lola and i have planted plenty of vegetables at the back yard and one of them is the Ampalaya(bitter melon) that i made climb up to the heights of the tamarind tree? we were sitting at the swing, i was 13 years old and you were a little boy of 3 and you asked me if the fruits of the bitter melong taste bad and bitter, and i told you IT IS JUST IN YOUR MIND. TRYING TO JOKE YOU. i am so tired of taking care of you because you always run around. and i was really tempting you to eat the bitter melon fruit.

i left you all by yourself at the swing and went to the bathroom for awhile and when i returned back--- you have eaten three of the fruits of the bitter melon like as if they are just plain apple. you were still holding the small piece of the fruit in your hand and the rest is inside your mouth. i ran inside the house to get you some water because i was afraid you might cry and hell will break loose with mother and i will surely get it. but you did not cry, no whimper, no complain. you just ate the fruit of the bitter melon and the rest is history that i have never told anybody especially mother to avoid retribution.

Now i am writing this letter to you, to remind you to think about your illness as the bitter melon again and think of it as like eating an apple. take your mind again when you were a tyke of 3yrs old and we were both at Lola's swing and you are eating the fruits of the bitter melon, but this time change the place, make it the hospital and the bitter melon is your illness--the cancer inside that esophagus of yours. i want you to close your eyes after you have read this letter and pretend and make it happen that your esophagus is swallowing those cancer cells instead of bitter melon fruit and let it come out in the wash room and flush it away.

TURN YOURSELF AGAIN INTO A LITTLE PHILLIP AND FORCE YOURSELF TO GET RID OF THAT CANCER CELL IN YOU.

DO IT FOR MOTHER WHO WILL CELEBRATE HER 80TH BIRTHDAY NEXT MONTH.

We will all gather around her and i want to see you all well and can drink your water without any problem and can eat your noodlE soup like as if nothing happened.

MAKE ME PROUD OF YOU AGAIN KIDDO. YOUR KUYA BOY LOVES YOU VERY MUCH.

Pretend that i am there with you, giving you a bear hug and telling you your proudest acheivements in life when you had two great children who loves you very much and a wife who cares for you.YOU HAVE TO SURVIVE TO SEE YOUR SON PILOTS HIS OWN PLANE.

I WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY MORE THAN ANYTHING.

Your Kuya Boy who loves you very much.

LAMENT OF AN ELDER BROTHER
MY YOUNGER BROTHER WAS BORN WHEN WE THOUGHT OUR MOTHER WILL NOT BE GIVING BIRTH TO ANOTHER CHILD. WE WERE ALREADY SEVEN IN THE FAMILY. MY YOUNGER BROTHER WAS THE BABY OF THE FAMILY FOR THREE YEARS. HE WAS WELL TAKEN CARED OF BY ALL OF US. FROM THE TIME HE STARTED WALKING, ALL OF US WAS THERE FOR HIM. HIS FIRST STEP WAS THE JOY FOR ALL OF HIS SIBLINGS. HIS BAPTISM WAS GIVEN A BIG BASH BY MY FATHER, CUZ HE NOW HAS THREE BOYS TO BRAG ABOUT, ME BEING THE ELDEST AMONG THE THREE. MY KID BROTHER'S ABILITY TO BE ABLE TO WALK AND FINALLLY SPEAK WAS SOMETHING TO REMEMBER.

HE DID NOT HAVE THE LUXURY OF HAVING HIS OWN YAYA AND PRIVATE BUS TO PICK HIM UP AND DROP HIM IN SCHOOL. DURING THOSE TIME, THIS IS NOT THE COMMON PRACTICE YET. WE HAVE TO WALK HOME FROM SCHOOL TO OUR HOUSE VICE VERSA. THEN IT WAS TIME FOR HIM TO ATTEND HIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. I LEFT HIM THOSE TIMES, CUZ I WAS PREPAIRING FOR THE ENTRY TO SEMINARY. I WAS ENGAGED IN THE CHURCH SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES IN THE CHURCH.

WHEN I ENTERED THE SEMINARY, MY YOUNGEST BROTHER WAS ABOUT TO ENTER HIGH SCHOOL. WHEN I COME TO VISIT THE FAMILY ONCE A MONTH, OUR CONVERSATION IS LIMITED. MY YOUNGER BROTHER HAS HIS OWN AGENDA AND I AM NO LONGER IN TUNED WITH IT. I TALKED TO HIM AND EXPLAIN TO HIM THINGS ABOUT GOD AND RELIGION BUT HE DOES NOT SEEMS TO UNDERSTAND IT, BUT BEING THE YOUNGER BROTHER AND I KNOW HIS RESPECT ME AS BEING HIS ELDER BROTHER, HE WILL JUST SAY AMEN TO ALL THE THINGS I SAY TO HIM.

WHEN HE WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, OUR BUSINESS IS BOOMING AND THERE IS NO STOP TO IT. SO ALL THE TWO YOUNGER SIBLINGS WAS GIVEN THE BEST SCHOOL, CLOTHINGS AND ALL THE MONEY CAN BUY. MY YOUNGER BROTHER WAS DROWNING TO ALL OF THESE CHANGES, AND WE DID NOT NOTICE THE CHANGED IN HIM. WE ALL THOUGHT ALL IS FINE AND DANDY, BUT NEEDLESS TO SAY, HE WAS TRYING TO SAY SOMETHING TO ALL OF US, BUT WE WERE ALL BUSY TRYING TO RUN A BIG COMPANY AND ME BUSY TRYING TO FINISH MY PRIESTHOOD STUDIES.

WHEN I STEP OUT OF THE SEMINARY, I TOOK OVER THE BUSINSESS AND
ON THE PERSUATION OF MY MOTHER, MY YOUNGER BROTHER UPON GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL WAS SENT TO SCHOOL IN RADIO TELEPHONY. HE WAS GOOD ON IT. THEN HE WORKED FOR OUR COMPANY AS A MESSENGER BECAUSE I WILL NOT LET ANY RELATIVE START ON THE TOP OF THE LADDER BECAUSE OF RELATIONSHIP. HE HAS TO PROVE TO ME THAT HE WAS CAPABLE OF BEING GIVEN A POSITION IN THE COMPANY. THEN SUDDENLY, WITHOUT FURTHER ADO HE TOLD US HE WANTS TO GET MARRIED. WE WERE ALL SHOCK, WE DID NOT KNOW HE HAS A GIRLFRIEND. IT WAS ONE OF MY CLERICAL SUPPORT. SO MARRIED THEY BECAME, HE WAS MARRIED BY THE PRIEST WHO IS OUR FRIEND AND WHO WAS MY FORMER PARISH PRIEST AND THE ONE WHO TOOK ME AS HIS ASSISTANT DURING MY SEMINARY FORMATION.

MY YOUNGER BROTHER, GOT MARRIED AND WE GAVE HIM THE POSITIION TO TAKE CARE OF ALL OF VOLUMES OF COMMUNICATIONS VIA SATELLITE AND TELEX (FAX MACHINE WAS NOT YET IN USE) HE PROVE HIMSELF TO BE GOOD AT IT, WE GAVE HIM ADDITIONAL WORK, WITH ADDITIONAL MONEY, CUZ HE IS NOW MARRIED AND WILL BE A FATHER SOON. ASIDE FROM BEING THE ONE INCHARGE IN THE TELECOMMUNICATION, HE WAS TEACHING ALL THE SHIP'S RADIO OPERATOR THE MODERN TELEPHONY AND THE (INMARSAT) INTERNATIONAL MARITIME SATELLITE TRAINING.

HIS FIRST SON CAME. WE WERE HAPPY FOR HIM. BUT THE BABY AS HE WAS GROWING UP WAS DIFFERENT WAS IN DOING THINGS. VERY QUITE AND WANTS TO IMMITATE OTHER PEOPLE BUT VERY INTELLIGENT. HE BECAME SO ENGROSSED AND SO AMAZED WITH AIRPLANES. THAT WAS THE ONLY THING HE TALKED ABOUT. MY WHOLE FAMILY WAS A LITTLE CONCERNED, SO HE WAS SENT TO A SPECIAL KIDS THERAPHY, THEN WE FOUND OUT HE WAS AUTISTIC. NOW THE BOY IS NOW A TEENAGER AND ON HIS 3RD YEAR OF LEARNING HOW TO FLY AN AIR PLANE. ANOTHER SISTER CAME, BUT ANOTHER PROBLEM WAS IN STORE. SHE HAS A THIRD PLAYMATE AND ALWAYS TALK TO HER FRIEND. SHE WAS SENT AGAIN TO A PLAY THERAPHY, AND THEN WAS DIAGNOSED TO HAVE SLIGHT AUTISM ALSO.

MY KID BROTHER TOOK THESE THINGS WITH AN OPEN HEART. NEVER COMPLAINED ABOUT WHAT WAS GIVEN TO HIM BY GOD, AND HOW IT WAS GIVEN TO HIM. THEY LIVE A LIFE OF SIMPLICITY AND ALL IN THE DIRECT AND WATCHFUL EYES AND SUPERVISION OF MY MOTHER WITHIN THE COMPLEX OF THR COMPANY HOUSING.

LAST FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR, MY KID BROTHER WAS HAVING PROBLEM SWALLOWING HIS FOOD. HE THOUGHT IT WAS INDIGESTION AND SOMETHING HE ATE. HE KEPT IT FROM ALL OF US AND JUST WENT ON WITH HIS LIFE, UNTIL IT GOT WORST THIS APRIL THEN HE CANNOT HIDE IT ANYMORE THAT HE WAS ORDERED BY MY ELDER SISTER TO SEE A DOCTOR. BY THE TIME HE WAS DIAGNOSED, IT WAS TOO LATE. THE ESOPHAGIAL TRACT IS ALREADY SWOLLEN AND AN IMMEDIATE CATSCAN WAS ORDERED. MY KID BROTHER WAS SO NERVOUS ABOUT IT. HE WAS IMMEDIATELY ORDERD TO STAY AT THE HOSPITAL BY OUR FAMILY DOCTOR, A SECOND OPINION WAS ASKED AND THE WHAT WE ARE FEARING WAS TRUE, MY KID BROTHER HAS CANCER OF THE ESOPHAGIAL TRACT.

HE WENT UNDER THE KNIFE OF THE DOCTOR MY FAMILY HAS CHOSEN, AS ADVISED BY THE FAMILY PHYSICIAN. LAST MONDAY, MY BROTHER'S LIFE WAS IN THE HANDS OF HIS SURGEON. NOW HE IS IN THE HANDS OF WHAT ALL IS SAYING TO BE OF "PRAYERS" AND THE "DECISION OF GOD" THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO ARREST THE PROBLEM, ALL OF MY FAMILY IS WAITING FOR A "MIRACLE", I WAS WAITING FOR MEDICAL AND CLINICAL ANALYSIS FROM HIS DOCTOR AND OUR FAMILY PHYSICIAN. I CALLED THE CELL FON OF HIS WIFE THINKING THAT SHE WAS NOT INSIDE THE ROOM OF MY BROTHER. WHEN MY BROTHER LEARNED THAT I WAS ON THE FON WITH HIS WIFE, HE MOTIONED HER TO HAND OVER CEL PHONE TO HIM. I HALTED ALL EMOTIONS, I TOLD HIM HOW MUCH I HAVE THOUGHT OF HIM WHILE HE WAS IN SURGERY, I TOLD HIM I WAS SO PROUD OF HIM AND WILL ALWAYS LOVE HIM AND WILL ALWAYS BE PROUD OF HIM --- HE FORCED HIMSELF TO SPEAK FOR ME, I TOLD HIM TO HAND OVR THE FON TO HIS WIFE AND REST, WHEN I HANG UP THE FON, I STARTED TO CRY LIKE I HAVE NEVER CRIED BEFORE IN MY WHOLE LIFE.

MY LAMENT FOR MY YOUNGER BROTHER IS HE WAS SO NAIVE ABOUT SO MANY THINGS IN LIFE, AND YET HE WAS GIVEN THIS MOST HIDEOUS KIND OF SICKNESS AND AILMENT. WHAT HAS HE DONE TO DERSERVE THIS.WHAT IS THE KIND OF CRUELTY THAT HE HAS DONE TO THIS WORLD AND TO OTHER PEOPLE THAT MY BROTHER WILL BE GIVEN SUCH SUFFERINGS THAT WILL MELT ANY HEART. I AM FINDING AN ANSWER, BUT I CAN'T FIND ONE. IS THERE JUSTICE INTO THIS--- I DONT KNOW.

THEN I TEXT HIM ON HIS CELL FON AND SAID TO HIM:

" DEAREST PHILLIP, I WAS THINKING OF YOU ALL THE TIME YOU WERE IN SURGERY. I HAVE KNOWN YOU TO BE A BRAVE KID. I WAS ROUTING FOR YOU, I KNOW YOU WILL PASS THIS TEST WITH FLYING COLORS AND YOU WILL MAKE US ALL PROUD OF YOU, ONCE MORE. AND I WANT YOU TO KNOW ALSO, THAT I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU AND WILL ALWAYS THINK OF YOU AS MY LITTLE BROTHER. THINK THAT I AM THERE WITH YOU, HUGGING YOU AND KISSING AS YOUR KUYA BOY. TAKE CARE LITTLE BROTHER, I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU"

WHY HIMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!
WHY HIMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!

AN OPEN LETTER TO GOD
DEAR GOD,

WHEN I WAS 10 YEARS OLD, THE FIRST THING THAT I HAVE SEEN IN MY YOUNG LIFE ARE THE FACES OF THE FRANCISCAN CAPUCHIN MONKS WITH THEIR BEARD ON THEIR FACES AT ST. ANTHONY CHURCH. I HAVE SERVED IN THE MASSES, NOVENAS, BAPTISMS, WEDDINGS, CONFIRMATIONS AND ALSO BLESSING OF THE DEAD, VISITATION OF THE SICK AND HAVE WITNESSED SO MANY EXTREME UNCTION UNTIL DEATH OF SO MANY PEOPLE.

I COME HOME WITH THE SMELL OF THE INCENSE IN MY HAIR AND MY CLOTHES. DURING THE PROCESSION, I AM WALKING WITH THE PRIEST WITH THE HOLY WATER. MY BOYHOOD WAS ALL DEVOTED TO YOU. WHEN I FINISED HIGH SCHOOL, I ENTERED THE SEMINARY, AT AN EARLY AGE OF 18, I WAS IN YOUR HOUSE OF FORMATION LEARNING MORE ABOUT YOU AND UNDERSTANDING ALL THE MERITS ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE LEFT YOUR APOSTLES AND THE TEACHING THAT YOU HAVE IMPARTED TO THEM. I HAVE LEARNED RIGIROUSLY THE MANY PRAYERS INSIDE THE SEMINARY. AT THE EARLY TIME OF 4:30 AM WE HAVE TO WAKE UP TO KNEEL IN PRAYER IN YOUR GLORY. I HAVE STUDIED ALL THE MANY CHRISTIAN VIRTUES THAT YOU HAVE IMPARTED, THE ESCHATOLOGICAL ASPECT OF THE CHURCH, THE MANY CHURCH WRITINGS IN LATIN AND IN GREEK. THE MANY TREATIES AND MANY DEBACLE ABOUT YOU AS THE OMNIPOTENT AND THE MOST MAJESTICAL IN THE WHOLE WORLD. I WAS LEARNING THESE ON BENDED KNEES INSIDE YOUR HOLY CHURCH DAY IN AND DAY OUT.

I HAVE NEVER QUESTIONED ALL THE SUFFERINGS, ALL THE FRUSTRATIONS THAT COMES INTO OUR LIVES. WHO ARE WE TO QUESTION YOU, YOU ARE THE MOST HIGH.

MY YOUNGER BROTHER, WHO IS THE THIRD OLDER AMONG THE THREE BROTHERS OF EIGHT IN THE FAMILY, HAD LIVER PROBLEM. HE HAD CHYMO THERAPHY ON AN EXPERIMENTAL DRUG HERE IN THE STATES.

I NEVER QUESTIONED YOU BECAUSE THIS BROTHER OF MINE DID SOMETHING WRONG WHEN HE WAS YOUNG THAT DAMAGE HIS LIVER. HE SURVIVED BECAUSE MY SISTER IN LAW SAID SHE WAS ON HER BENDED KNEES TO YOU, BEGGING YOU TO SPARE HIM FOR HIS TWO CHILDREN.

YOU GAVE ME A VERY HARD AND SEVERE THYROID PROBLEM, WHICH IS TOXIC AND DIFFUSED AND COMPLICATED SOME OF MY VITAL ORGANS, AND NOW I AM EVEN HAVE DIABETES II, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, MY EYES IS FALTERING,MY EMOTIONS AND MY CHOLESTEROL WENT UP.

I HAVE NEVER QUESTIONED YOU.

LAST YEAR, I HAD PAIN IN MY UPPER SIDE OF MY JAW, AND MY DENTAL SURGEON THOUGT IT WAS (TMJ) "TEMPRORO MANDIVULAR JAWBONE" PROBLEM. THE PAIN IS UNBEARABLE, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT. I THEN WENT TO A NEUROLOGIST LAST MONTH AND I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE A RARE DISEASE AND I WAS ONE AMONG THE LUCKY ONES WHO HAD IT, AND THE SPECIALIST SAID THIS IS THE MOST PAINFUL AILMENT A PERSON COULD HAVE IN HIS LIFE. HE TOLD ME I HAVE (STN) "SEVER TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA". THE PAIN IS UNBEARABLE, WHEREIN I BECAME SUICIDAL ONE TIME WHEN I CANNOT BEAR THE PAIN.

I NEVER QUESTIONED YOU.

TODAY, MY YOUNGEST BROTHER AMONG THE THREE OF US, IS NOW IN THE HANDS OF A SURGEON. AS I AM TYPING THIS BLOG, HE IS IN THE HANDS OF A SURGEON FOR MORE THAN 10 HRS NOW. THEY ARE REMOVING HIS CANCER OF THE ESOPHAGIAL TRACT. MY ELDEST SISTER WAS TELLING ME THIS AFTERNOON, THAT BEFORE HE WENT INTO SURGERY THIS MORNING, MY KID BROTHER, WITH HIS TWO HANDS, WAS HOLDING THE HANDS OF THE SURGEON AND BEGGING HIM TO EXTEND HIS LIFE FOR HIS TWO KIDS. THIS KID BROTHER OF MINE HAS UNDERGONE SO MANY HARDSHIP IN LIFE. HE GOT MARRIED AND YOU GAVE HIM A SON WHO IS AUTISTIC AND A DAUGHTHER WHO IS A LITTLE BIT SLOW. BUT THIS KID BROTHER OF MINE TOOK IT WITH NO QUALMS AND NO COMPLAINTS. HE RAISED HIS TWO KIDS AS A NATURAL ASIT IS.

THIS NOON TIME MANILA TIME, MY SISTER TOLD ME THAT THE SURGEON HAS TO STOP AND REST FOR A WHILE, THEY HAVE BEEN OPERATING MY BROTHER FOR ALMOST FIVE HOURS. I WAS TOLD THE SURGERY WILL BE MORE THAN TEN HOURS AND ANOTHER FIVE HOURS RECOVERY PERIOD.

THE CANCER HAS NOW TOUCHED PART OF HIS LUNGS. THE DOCTORS SAID IF THEY CANNOT REMOVED IT AND CANNOT ARREST IT, THEY WILL JUST SUBJECT MY YOUNGEST BROTHER INTO COBALT TREATMENT AND CHEMOTHERAPHY.

THIS TIME I WILL QUESTION YOU GOD------ WHY MY YOUNGEST BROTHER, WHO IS THE SLOWEST AMONG ALL OF US. THE MOST INNOCENT AND SO CHILD LIKE IN HIS WAY OF THINKING AMONG ALL OF US.

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO DO THIS TO MY YOUNGEST BROTHER?????AM I TO THINK THAT YOU ARE ENJOYING THE SUFFERING OF YOUR CHILDREN?????? AM I TO THINK THAT OUR MISERIES WILL GAIN FAVOR TO YOU?????? THIS KID BROTHER OF MINE HAS A FAMILY, SHOW YOUR LOVE AND COMPASSION TO HIM, HE IS NOT ASKING TOO MUCH FROM YOU, HE JUST WANT TO LIVE AND SEE HIS CHILDREN GROW UP.

IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK THAT YOU LOOK UPON HIM AND SPARE HIM???? WILL IT BE SINFUL TO ASK FROM YOU, TO CHALLENGE YOU, TO INSISTS YOU OF YOUR LOVE AND YOUR KINDNESS TO YOUR CREATRURE???? SHOW MY KID BROTHER YOUR LOVE AND COMPASSION, HE NEEDS YOU NOW!!!!!! IF YOU CANNOT SPARE HIM, GIVE HIM REST AND NOT PAIN, DONT LET HIM SUFFER, DONT LET HIM BE YOUR CREATURE OF MISERY.......

I LOVE MY BROTHER, CAN YOU NOT GIVE HIM THIS THING THAT WE ASK OF YOU?????GIVE US AND ESPECIALLY MY KID BROTHER YOUR PROTECTION.......

OF GOD------ WE NEED YOU NOW.............

FOR TEN YEARS I WAS INSIDE THE HOUSE OF FORMATION, LEARNING ABOUT YOU, UNDERSTANDING YOU AND ALL YOUR TEACHING. MY AGE OF PUBERTY WAS INSIDE YOUR HOUSE OF FORMATION. I LEFT YOU AND FOLLOWED THE MARITAL LIFE.MY RECTOR TOLD ME, YOU HAVE CHOSE THIS PATH OF LIFE FOR ME AND I SHOULD FOLLOW IT.

I NEVER COMPLAINED.

YOU GAVE ME TWO BOYS, THEY HAVE TURNED OUT TO BE GOOD AND LOVING. I HAVE A WIFE YOU HAVE BEEN GOOD TO ME AND NOW WE WILL BE COUNTING OUR 25TH YEAR OF MARRIAGE THIS 12 OF JUNE.

ALL OF THESE ARE ALL BECAUSE OF YOU.

I COME NOW TO YOU ASKING YOU TO SPARE MY KID BROTHER....LET HIS SURVIVE THE ORDEAL, SHOW US YOU MERCY AND COMPASSION.

IS IT TOO MUCH OF US TO ASK FROM YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

WHAT'S IN YOUR SUNSCREEN
There are some concerns about thse chemicals safetey.

** Oxybenzone -- for instance, has been shown to decrease sperm count and lenghten the estrous cycle in mice.

** Octyl Methoxycinnamate -- may damage skin cells.

** Benzophenone - 3(Bp-3) Homosalate (HMS) 4 - methyl benzylidene camphor (4-MBC) octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC) and octyl dimethylPABA (OD PABA) were found to have estrogenic effects in teh body, which can lead to certain cancers, including breast cancer.

Some common natural ingredients often incorporated into sunscreens include:

** Grape seed extract, vitamin E and green tea - all antioxidants tha may help neutralize free radical damage from both the sun and suncsreen itslef.

** Wite birch extract - possesses antiviral qualities (the latest theory is that cancer, including skinc ancer, may have viral component).

** Aloe -- brings a moisturizing soothing component to themix.

** Herbs and botanicals that offer antibactirial/antiviral support like Chamomile (which reduces inflammation and heals bruns). yarrow (which heals wounds) and echinacea ( an antiviral immune suporter) are common in sunscreens.

sometimes a proeuct will also include an aromatic herb such as lavender as a frangrance and insect reppellent.
